Black and Tan

Definition:
A mixture of ale or lager and stout.

Usage:
"Make mine a Black and Tan, please"

Explanation:
Stout, which is black, is combined with light brown India Pale Ale or lager. They may be poured together, or layered if one is feeling especially ambitious.

Trivia:
Despite than fact that Guiness is often used to mix a Black and Tan, the name is also given to a notorious British militia unit, recruited in the early 1920s to bolster the ranks of the police. They quickly gained a reputation for brutality and mention of the militia still arouses strong feelings in Ireland.
