(16 June 2008) To me, gutted means speechless, anguished. To-day someone told me it means angry. Has anyone else heard this?

As far as I know, "gutted" is a recent addition to the English language in the UK. It means literatlly - "gutted", your gut being pulled out - meaning very disappointed, sad etc. It's used in situation such as when you are expected to get something, or get into a University, but you find out that you are rejected, so you can say you are "really gutted".
