How is it used?:
Used with reference to Mountain Men and to the Portland, Oregon Indie Rock Band.
What does it mean?:
To gear up for something that's going to be bigger than normal.
How did it come to be used this way?:
In mountain man lore folks might say "the way he's loaded down he's not just going squirrel hunting, he's loaded for bear" i.e. heavier caliber rifle, bigger pack with more supplies to dress it out etc.
Trivia/fun facts:
It's also the name of a Portland, OR rock band.
