Definition of: Agnus Dei

(ag′nəs dē′ī, dā′ē)
1. Eccl. A figure of a lamb, as an emblem of Christ, often bearing a cross and banner.
2. In the Roman Catholic Church, a medallion or cake of wax stamped with this emblem and blessed by the Pope.
3. Eccl. a A prayer in the mass, beginning with the words Agnus Dei. b In Anglican and some other churches, a translation of this prayer, beginning “O Lamb of God.”
