Definition of: date line

1. The line containing the date of publication of a periodical or of any contribution, dispatch, etc., printed in it.
2. An imaginary line approximately congruent with 180° longitude from Greenwich, internationally agreed upon as determining those points on the earth's surface where a day is dropped on crossing it from west to east and added on crossing from east to west: also called Interna·tional Date Line.
