An elementary particle, as a positron, antiproton, antineutron, etc., equal in mass to another elementary particle, as an electron, proton, neutron, etc., but opposite to it in charge and in magnetic properties. Contact between a particle and its opposite results in mutual annihilation and the release of energy.
