(ant′lī′ən) noun
1. An insect (family Myrmeleontidae) resembling a dragonfly; especially, its long-jawed, louselike larva, usually called doodle-bug, which buries itself in a funnel-shaped pit with only its jaws projecting and preys on ants and other insects. For illustration see under INSECT(beneficial).
2. A mythical animal, half lion, half ant.
