(kal′sə·fi·kāshən) noun
1. Conversion into chalk, or into stony or bony substance, by the deposition of lime salts, as in petrifaction and ossification.
2. Such a lime formation.
3. Pathol. A petrifactive retrogression observed in tissue which has degenerated.
4. The accumulation by a surface soil of sufficient calcium to bring soil colloids close to saturation, as in Chernozem soils.
