(el′ə·vā′tər) noun
1. One who or that which elevates.
2. A hoisting mechanism for grain.
3. A warehouse where grain is elevated and distributed.
4. A movable platform or cage in a building, for carrying freight or passengers up or down.
5. Aeron. An auxiliary airfoil, by the tilting or dipping of which the ascent or descent of the airplane is regulated: also called diving rudder. See illustration under AIRPLANE.
