A crystalline coal–tar product, superficially green in the solid state, but deep red in solution. Obtained by treating rosaniline with hydrochloric acid, it is used as a dye and in printing. Also called magenta. Also fuch′sine (-sin, -sēn). [<FUCHSIA + -IN]
