In Greek mythology, the son of Oeneus and Althaea, who slew the Calydonian boar and in a quarrel over the spoils killed his mother's brothers: Althaea took revenge by burning the log she had removed from the hearth at his birth, when it had been prophesied that her son would die after it was consumed.
