Definition of: mitosis

(mī·tō′sis) noun Biol.
The series of changes in indirect cell division by which the chromatin of the nucleus is modified into a double set of chromosomes that splits longitudinally, one set going to each nuclear pole of the spindle before final division into two fully mature daughter cells.
