Definition of: previous question

In parliamentary practice, a motion to avoid or secure a vote at once. In the British Parliament, the motion is put to prevent a speedy vote on a measure. In the United States House of Representatives it is used to end debate and secure an immediate vote. Compare CLOSURE.
