Definition of: proportion

(prə·pôr′shən, -pōr′-) noun
1. Relative magnitude, number, or degree, as existing between parts, a part and a whole, or different things.
2. Fitness and harmony; symmetry.
3. A proportionate or proper share; any share or part.
4. An equality or identity between ratios.
5. Math. That rule by which, when three numbers are given, a fourth can be found having the same ratio to the third as the second has to the first: also called the rule of three, three of the four terms being always given.
