(sīr) noun
1. A father; begetter: used also in composition: grandsire. The feminine correlative is dame.
2. The male parent of a mammal, the female parent (of lower animals) being usually termed the dam.
3. A form of address to a superior: now used only in addressing a king or other sovereign.
4. Obs. A master; lord; also, a gentleman.
