Definition of: Ulster cycle

The older and more famous of the two cycles of Old Irish epic and romance. The manuscripts date from the seventh and eighth centuries, but celebrate the Ireland and Irish heroes of the first century, and depict a civilization of barbaric splendor that dates back centuries earlier.
