(vyō·lō′nā) noun
1. The double–bass of the viol family, playing an octave lower than the viola da gamba: the immediate ancestor of the modern double–bass, which replaces the true double–bass of the violin family.
2. An organ stop with stringlike tone quality, having a 16–foot length and tone.
