Definition of: Alexandrian school

1. A late Hellenic school of literature, science, and philosophy, at Alexandria, Egypt, during the last three centuries B.C.
2. The school of Christian philosophers and theologians at Alexandria during the first five centuries A.D., which sought to combine Christianity and Greek philosophy, and so gave rise to Neoplatonism and Gnosticism.
