(klar′ə·net′) noun
1. A cylindrical woodwind instrument with bell mouth, having a single reed mouthpiece, finger holes, and keys. Clarinets are made in various keys and sizes: those in B♭ and A are used in both orchestras and jazz bands; those in C and E♭ are used in jazz bands only.
2. An organ stop having a sound similar to that of a clarinet. Also clar·i·o·net (klar′ē·ə·net′).
