Definition of: conjunction

(kən·jungk′shən) noun
1. The state of being joined together, or the things so joined; combination; league.
2. Astron. The position of an inferior planet when it is on a direct line with the earth and the sun, or of a superior planet when the sun is on the direct line between it and the earth.
3. Simultaneous occurrence of events.
4. Gram. A word used to connect words, phrases, clauses, or sentences: one of the eight traditional parts of speech. See synonyms under ASSOCIATION, UNION.
