In Greek mythology, a son of Prometheus who, with his wife Pyrrha, was the only survivor of a deluge sent by Zeus to punish the world's wickedness: they renewed the human race by throwing stones behind them, those thrown by Deucalion becoming men, those by Pyrrha, women.
