(fyz) noun
A mechanical or electrical device that initiates the explosive charge of a shell, bomb, grenade, etc.: distinguished from fuse (def. 2).
—all–ways fuze A fuze, used especially on mortar shells, which detonates the explosive charge on contact, regardless of the position of the projectile.
