Definition of: Gestalt psychology

A school of psychology which interprets biological and psychic processes in terms of the action and interplay of closely integrated patterns or Gestalten; the observed effect of a Gestalt, as well as the mechanism of its action, cannot be adequately explained through a simple analysis of its constituent parts.
