A crystalline bacteriostatic and bactericidal substance isolated from an aerobic spore-forming soil bacterium (Bacillus brevis). It is a constituent of tyrothricin and has a powerful selective effect against Gram-positive microorganisms. [<GRAM(-POSITIVE) + -(I)CIDE + -IN]
