An efflorescent, crystalline, water–soluble, polyhydric alcohol, C6H6(OH)6, regarded as the anti–alopecia factor of the vitamin B complex. It is widely distributed in plant and animal tissue and also made synthetically. Also called muscle sugar. Also in·o·site (inə·sīt). [<Gk. is, inos muscle + -IT(E)1 + -OL1]
