1. A small mantle or short cloak.
2. Mil. A screen or shield, as in an embrasure, to protect the defenders; a movable roof to protect a besieging party; also, a shield or protection, made of metal, rope, or wood, placed at openings, portholes, etc., to protect the gunner from bullets or smoke.
3. In target-shooting, a bulletproof enclosure for observation.
