1. The principles and common system of doctrines taught by Luther, and by the evangelical churches since. Its positive and formal principle is that nothing that is not taught in the Holy Scriptures, the authoritative rule of faith and practice in the church, enters as an essential element into the Christian system.
2. The ecclesiastical system founded upon this faith; also, Protestants, collectively.
