1. One of a Jewish family descended from Jonadab, son of Rechab, who abstained from wine and the planting of vineyards. Jer. XXXV 3.
2. Hence, a total abstainer from intoxicants; a teetotaler.
3. A member of a society of teetotalers called the Independent Order of Rechabites, founded in England in 1835 and in the United States in 1842.
