Definition of: Red Cross Society

A society for the succor of the sick and wounded in war, formed in accordance with the international convention signed at Geneva in 1864, the members wearing a red Geneva cross as a badge of neutrality. These societies are now national organizations, as the American Red Cross, and continue their beneficent activities in times of peace, as in fighting disease, etc.
