A U. S. political party formed in 1901 by the combination of a dissident group from the Socialist Labor party with the Social Democratic party (established in 1898 by E. V. Debs and others). After the Social Democratic Federation, a dissident group formed in 1936, rejoined in 1957, the name Socialist party–Social Democratic Federation was officially adopted.
