Definition of: Sporades

(spôr′ə·dēz, Greek spô·rä′thes)
1. Loosely, all the Greek islands in the Aegean, exclusive of the Cyclades.
2. Anciently, the islands of the SE Aegean, off western Asia Minor, including the Dodecanese, Icaria, Samos, and, in some usages, Chios and Lesbos.
3. Strictly, the Northern Sporades, a group of Greek islands in the western Aegean, off the coasts of Euboea and Thessaly, the chief of which is Skyros: Greek Voriai Sporades.
