In medieval legend, a knight sent to Ireland to bring back the princess Iseult the Beautiful as a bride for his uncle, King Mark of Cornwall. Iseult and Tristan mistakenly drink a magic love potion, and ultimately die together. In some versions, Tristan is later married to Iseult of the White Hand, daughter of the Duke of Brittany.
