Any of a genus (Trypanosoma) of flagellate infusorians infesting the blood of man and some lower animals. They destroy the red corpuscles, and cause serious and even fatal diseases, as the sleeping sickness. Also tryp′a·no·so′ma (-sō′·mə). [<Gk. trypanon a borer + -SOME2]
