Definition of: Union Territory

In India, under the provisions of the States Reorganization Act, which came into effect November 1, 1956, a division of India administered by the central government, rather than governing itself as a State. The six Union Territories of India are the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, the Laccadive Islands, Manipura, and Tripura; Pondicherry is also temporarily administered as a Union Territory.
