Definition of: volley

(vol′ē) noun
1. A simultaneous discharge of many missiles; also, the missiles so discharged.
2. Any discharge of many things at once: a volley of oaths.
3. In tennis, a return of the ball before it touches the ground.
4. In soccer, a kick given the ball before its rebound.
5. In cricket, a ball bowled so that it strikes the head of the wicket before it touches the ground.
