Definition of: ambassador

(am·bas′ə·dər, -dôr) noun
1. An accredited diplomatic agent of the highest rank, appointed as the representative of one government or state to another (ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary) or to represent a government or state at a particular function, as the wedding of a king (ambassador extraordinary on special mission).
2. Any personal representative or messenger. Also embassador. See synonyms under HERALD.
