1. A very tough cord, made from the intestines of certain animals, as sheep, and used for stringing musical instruments, making surgical ligatures, etc.
2. A violin or fiddle; hence, stringed instruments generally: a humorous use.
3. A leguminous perennial (Tephrosia virginiana), native in the eastern half of the United States.
