1. Any of a large number of tropical American trees, especially a West Indian tree (Brya ebenus) yielding a hard, durable wood used in making flutes, clarinets, recorders, etc.
2. The fine-grained rosewood or cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa), valued for furniture and cabinetwork.
3. The wood of such trees, especially that used in making musical instruments. Also called grenadilla, grenadillo. [<Sp.]
