(hī·pûrbə·loid) noun Math.
A quadratic surface generated by a hyperbola revolving about a fixed line: also called a hyperboloid of one sheet. A hyperboloid of two sheets is a quadratic surface generated by an ellipse moving so as to remain parallel to a common transverse axis, and varying so that the ends of its axes coincide with given hyperbolas having the same transverse axis.
