1. One who or that which interrupts.
2. Electr. A device, usually automatic, for rapidly breaking and making an electric circuit, as in an induction coil.
3. Mil. An electrical device, in connection with a chronoscope, for causing a pencil to register the exact time of passage of a projectile through a wire screen.
4. Mil. An automatic device that interrupts the firing of a flexibly mounted gun, as in a turret, when structural parts of the craft or vehicle in which it is mounted come within the field of fire. Also inter·rup′tor.
