1. The act of sharpening or bringing to a point.

3. In sculpture, the making of a plaster or clay model with points or marks at intervals and the transferring of these points to the surface of a stone block as an aid in reproducing the model accurately.

Archit. a The process of treating joints in masonry, slating, or tiling, by filling interstices, smoothing out, etc., to finish or repair and to weatherproof. b The removal of the thin top layer of mortar between courses of brick and masonry, to replace it with a more moisture-resistant compound.
5. In milling, the rubbing off of the points of grain.
