Definition of: splint

(splint) noun
1. A thin, flat piece split off; a splinter.
2. A thin, flexible strip of split wood used for basket–making, chair bottoms, etc.
3. In plate armor, one of the flexibly adjusted overlapping laminae.
4. Surg. An appliance, as of wood or metal, used for keeping a fractured limb or other injured part in a fixed position.
5. A splint bone.
6. An osseous tumor on the splint bone of a horse, due to inflammation of the periosteum; also, a bony callosity resulting from disease of the splint bones.
